Avg 7.5 Problem

The latest version of setup files can have fixes to uninstall problems that people have reported.I just uninstalled AVG 8.0 from my sister's computer this way and it went as smooth At least that fixed it so I could repair 7.5 and get it working again. Thats why you cant un-install the old one.The error seems to be reporting its not allowed write to the registry and Google is throwing up a good few discussions on the All rights reserved.

Ironic dont you think? The files being gone won't affect the registry being written to--as far as I know, at worst the system will throw up an error that it can't find the files. I forwarded this error message and the Remover log to AVG customer service. Apparently, you must manualy go to that register location and make sure all permissions are set OK. Now I try every combination of ĎResetí and ĎRemoverí, but it still wonít uninstall or upgrade. I tried to do an upgrade from 7.5 to 8.0 but as usual it locked in the middle and completely mucked up AVG. You can screw up your system big time if you use it incorrectly.I know, thatís why I posted. Yes, my password is: Forgot your password? It just kept locking up. After you download it and when you double click the downloaded file I'm fairly certain that it should give you an Uninstall Product option as well as an install option.

Sully Moderator 07-Jan-2007 14:57 #3 I believe the new AVG removes the old one, and I assume it was in the process of doing so when the installer failed. Then do a regedit, open regedit, click on Edit>Find then type in AVG, click Find and delete what ever comes up for AVG. Such opinions may not be accurate and they are to be used at your own risk. It now seems to have sorted itself and all systems are showing green.

It's not designed to do so by scanning, checking the service, then clicking "Fix Checked". Didnít remove it just reset it. Can you choose that option or is the installation stopping before you're given that option?

From what I can gather, the OPs problem is as a result of a virus.

Now with the pending demise of 7.5 (paid for through 09/2010) I tried first to uninstall 7.5 so as to follow with a clean install of 8.0. Product not installed.Sure enough, AVG doesn't show up on my Add/Remove Programs list...

The log looked interesting to my untrained eye.
