Uninstalled Ashampo firewall and up dates now work. I had figured out that Zonealarm was the culprit but couldnt see any instances in the program control section of AVG installer being blocked. This is a scanner that is recommended by people FAR smarter than myself, primarily as an addition to a good function anti-virus program. Since – at the moment – we seem to Alans fix worked like a charm!
